Day 94, Mark 16

Mark 16

Mark’s final chapter is different from Matthew’s. Mark is writing a chronicle to show Jesus the servant king. His focus is the present, stringing together all the pearls of revelation that come from the life of Christ.

So Mark adds some pearls that Matthew omits. There is the command to tell “my disciples, even Peter” what they have seen. This shows Jesus’s intention to restore Peter after his denial in the courtyard two nights earlier. (Remember that Jesus predicted this, but was not present when it happened).

Another pearl is the details of the disciples’ disbelief. Another touch of authenticity that makes this account truly believable.

And Mark concludes, with typical brevity and urgency, with his record of the great commission. Jesus is with us today as we do the same. What will you see?!

Have a great day!

Mark.
